Eating in Savoonga

When we decided to move to Savoonga, my cousin, knowing our love for fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, etc., wondered what our diet would be like while living here. It has been a learning process. The store is not much of an option...very over-priced, unpredictable, and not many nutritious options. We do buy eggs and frozen veggies when available. Most of our goods we ship up through a buying club while visiting Seattle. If you live in the western states, visit the website for Azure Standard. We've found them to be a good option for buying healthy, bulk items. Thanks to friends and family who send us boxes, we get our fair share of treats. And we've recently started gardening:)

This was a dream meal! Powdered milk. Avocado from the store!(that's a first!) Cheese from my sister. Olives shipped up. Tomatoes from our AeroGarden given to us by my brother. Greens from our teacher friends' AeroGarden, borrowed for the summer. Homemade tortilla and beans. Look at all those colors! Thanks for helping us diversify our diet:)

"Smile Logan...no, just a normal smile."

"Thanks Logan!"

Our friends left us an apple, so the boys made pie.
